1) How do I book DEAR JON for my event?

PHONE 818-906-8633 and/or E-MAIL bookings@dearjon.us. You will reach Jon Dunmore, DEAR JON Manager, and you can cover every detail about your event with him personally, including price, time onstage, song list, etc. All your details are documented on a Hiring Agreement (Contract). Your Deposit then 'firms up the date with DEAR JON. (Deposit is usually HALF the Agreed Fee, with the Balance Owed at least two weeks prior to your event date. For more info, see PAYMENT PROCEDURES below.)

It's pretty simple. You are dealing directly with me, Jon Dunmore (vocalist, musical director, and road manager of the band),
not an agency, or online form or phone menus. We exchange all written contracts via email so that you know exactly what we discussed and arranged.

2) Can I speak with the Band Leader personally before my event, or before booking?

If you are speaking with Jon Dunmore, you are speaking with the Band Leader. All your phone calls, arrangements, decisions and inquiries will not be lost amongst a group of bookers. You are welcome to put Jon in touch with your wedding coordinator or venue liaison so that he can take the entertainment organization off your shoulders - you've got enough to worry about!

3) What if I need to change the date of my event, or change the onstage time for the band?
Please contact Jon Dunmore as soon as you find out that you may need to change your event date, or change the times for the band to set up and/or perform, etc. We are here to accommodate your needs. (See also: CANCELLATIONS.)

4) Can DEAR JON provide references before I book?
Yes. Please see our Reviews page. You are welcome to contact any of the referees listed. (We try to keep all the contact numbers up-to-date, so if you come across any dead e-mails or phone numbers, please feel free to report these at dunmore@dearjon.us.)

5) Can I see DEAR JON perform somewhere before I book? And if I like what I see, can I book them then and there?
You are welcome to attend any public Dear Jon gigs, although take into account the surroundings when assessing the band, e.g. if we are dressed for a rock audience, we would not be dressed like that for your wedding, and vice versa. (See our PHOTOS page to review the different attire of DEAR JON.) Check our Tour Dates page for gigs you can attend, and call Jon to arrange for Guest List or other details. Many of our live performances are private functions, so we unfortunately cannot invite you to every gig you see listed. Next best thing are the DEAR JON videos.

If you like what you see at a live gig, you are welcome to "book" DEAR JON then and there, by providing the Deposit (half the Agreed Fee, by check or credit card). We would sign a Contract right there to confirm your date, and document your individual details and provisions (date of event, special load-in procedures, onstage times, etc.).

6) When I decide to book DEAR JON, can I hold my date without a deposit?
Sorry, no. The Deposit is what holds your date.

7) What if a band member gets sick or injured and can't make my event? Do I lose my deposit?
There are many substitute players in DEAR JON, all veteran performers who all know the same songs. If one member is indisposed, there are at least two other players who can take his/her place.

Your Deposit is always refundable up to two weeks before your event, and if Dear Jon Mgmt cancels DEAR JON's performance, even after the two-week deadline, you will be refunded your full fee. (For more info, ask Jon to point out these conditions in the Contract.)

8) What are your Deposit terms?
The Deposit is HALF the Agreed Fee, and is payable upon signing of a Hiring Agreement, in order to hold your Event date with DEAR JON.

9) How do I make payments to DEAR JON? Cash, check, etc.?
Cash, check, credit card, money order. Checks and money orders made out to: DEAR JON.

10) What are the deadlines for making Deposits and/or full payment?
Deposits should be made as soon as you decide on DEAR JON as your entertainment, so that we can hold your Event date in confidence. Full payment (the "Agreed Fee" or "Balance") is due at least two weeks prior to your Event date. Booking DEAR JON within two weeks of your Event is workable, but the full Agreed Fee is due immediately.

11) CANCELLATIONS: How much notice do I need for a Deposit refund? A full refund?
Your Deposit and/or Agreed Fee is refundable up to two weeks prior to your Event date. Cancellations within two weeks of your Event carry varying refunds. Jon will explain the details, which are outlined in the Hiring Agreement.

12) What are the "starting fees" for DEAR JON?
Each Client's needs are totally different, so there is no "starting fee" for hiring DEAR JON. Our fees are based on each Client's individual requirements - and are very competitive. Just call and find out!

13) Do you provide your own sound system?
Yes. DEAR JON will bring as much sound system as we need, depending on the size of the room.

14) How much "stage area" or space does DEAR JON need to set up and perform?
A minimum stage area of 15 feet x 15 feet (or 225 square feet) is required for the four-piece band configuration (drums, bass, guitar, vocals), structure of venue permitting. If there is no exclusive stage area, DEAR JON will lay a tape line on the floor, creating a stage space.

15) What are your electrical requirements?
A standard 110V outlet, no more than 20 feet from the stage area. Extension cords are fine.

16) Can DEAR JON do outdoor gigs? What are your requirements for that?
Requirements for outdoor shows: shading from the sun; a hard surface (not grass or sand, etc.); a power outlet or extension cord supplying 110V no more than 20 feet from the stage area. The String Quartet requires the same conditions, but no power outlet.

17) How does DEAR JON dress for my event?
Depending on the event, we can suit up or dress down - your decision: DEAR JON can perform your wedding reception in matching suits, or can rock your party in leather. Or anything in between...

18) Can I get onstage with the band and do a song?
At pubs and clubs: NO.
At private events, you may make prior arrangements with Dear Jon Mgmt to bring your own gear and coordinate what songs you wish to do with the band, but for safety reasons, no one can simply "get up onstage" on a whim. Ask Jon to go through the conditions on the Hiring Agreement regarding "sit-ins."

19) Can DEAR JON perform special request songs?
Of course. That's why some people even call us musicians! If you'd like a special song played for a first dance, etc. please let us know at the time of booking, and we will ensure that song gets done.
